Question 1: If you were allowed to follow through with joining the Navy, do you think it would’ve allowed you to forget/move on from what had happened to you up until that point?
Reply 1: In retrospect, I believe that joining the navy was not going to be the answer I was seeking. Distance proved to be no help for me and I’m certain that no distance the navy provided was going to help me. The truth is that distance may have kept me safe but distance was not going to allay the turmoil of my soul. I was only going to be able to move on after I took action to stop and uncover what had transpired.
Question 2. In the book, you mentioned you wanted to be a minister. Did you ever reconnect with your faith? Would you become a minister today if you had the chance?
Reply 2: I have, indeed, reconnected with my faith, though very little reconnection was needed…the steadfastness of my belief is what gave me the strength to live through Dean’s madness and the strength to, finally, do the right thing. As far as becoming a minister is concerned I was ordained a Universal Life Church Minister on August 23, 1999. Regardless of ordination, ministering to others is incumbent upon all of us. Not necessarily proselytizing, but in caring about the health and safety of others, their emotional well-being, and insuring no one is left, or feels left, alone.
Question 3: Do you think that you have the chance to be let out on parole? If you did get out, would you be able to conform to today’s society?
Reply 3: Since there are no rules, guidelines, nor goalposts set for parole release, I cannot give any guesses as to whether or not I will be released on parole. Could I fit into today’s society? In a word, yes. One only needs to spend a small amount of time with me to see the truth in that.
